The “Contested Governance” Summer School is exclusively offered to current DAAD In-Country/In-Region scholarship holders (Master or PhD students) in countries of the Global South who have a primary qualification (at least a Bachelor degree) in political science or other social sciences. The maximum number of participants in this summer school is 28.

The summer school will be held at the Arnold Bergstraesser Institute in Freiburg, Germany, from 2 to 28 September 2019. Besides, it will include excursions to Berlin, Eschborn and Frankfurt.

Accepted participants will receive a scholarship covering

  • All course-related fees

  • Travel expenses (economy class) from the international airport of the participant’s home country to Freiburg and back

  • Provision of accommodation:

    • 2-24 September 2019: Self-catered single room apartments in student dorms of the University of Freiburg with shared bathrooms and kitchen facilities

    • 24-25 September 2019: Shared sleeping compartments in a night train from Freiburg to Berlin

    • 25-28 September 2019: Twin rooms in a centrally located hostel in Berlin.

  • Full emergency health insurance and accident insurance (for 2-28 September 2019)

  • Free public transportation in Freiburg and surroundings as well as in Berlin

  • One-day excursion to Frankfurt/Eschborn by bus

  • Daily allowances to cover food-related subsistence expenses; tea/coffee breaks and snacks are provided throughout the course.

Please note that any additional expenses (for instance mailing costs for German visa applications, local travel to international airport, etc.) cannot be refunded.
